Abstract
Andarista, A. E. (2025) The Relationship Between Writing Anxiety and Writing Self-efficacy among English Language Students in Indonesia. (Unpublished Undergraduate Thesis) Universitas Kristen Duta Wacana: Yogyakarta, Indonesia. This study investigates the relationship between writing anxiety and writing self-efficacy among Indonesian English majors. The study, which involved 150 participants, used a quantitative approach to examine the relationship between students' anxiety levels during the writing process and their self-efficacy in their writing skills. The results showed that self-efficacy and writing anxiety were significantly negatively correlated. In particular, students who had greater writing self-efficacy also typically had lower writing anxiety, whereas students who had lower self-efficacy had higher anxiety levels. There was a considerable association between the two variables, as indicated by the moderately strong but statistically significant correlation. This finding supports the previous hypothesis that self-efficacy is very important in writing, especially when writing in a second language (L2). How well students handle difficulties in writing tasks is greatly influenced by their level of self-efficacy and confidence in their writing abilities. The majority of the participants in this study also demonstrated a moderate level of writing competence. This indicates that although perfect mastery has not been achieved, their emotional reactions to writing are significantly influenced by their perceptions of their own writing ability. The findings of this study as a whole emphasize the importance of writing self-efficacy in writing performance in an L2 context, which is a predictor of reducing writing anxiety.
